Yesterday, Year 2 were invited to an exciting event on Humber Street in Hull. GF Smiths Paper and the Hull City of Culture team invited us to the launch of the Paper City exhibition on display in and around the Humber Street Gallery. We didn’t really know what to expect other than there was going to be a lot of paper!!

The children were lucky enough to be shown around the exhibits before any of the public whilst having the opportunity to ask the artists about the works that they had created.

They were really intrigued by them all. The fish exhibition even offered paper fish and chips from a fish and chip van!

The children were then asked to take part in the public launch which included having  paper helicopters being launched out of various windows down Humber Street. The children were really eager and excited because we were the first ones to see the ‘world’s favourite colour’ which had been voted for by 100 different countries. This was as part of the World’s Favourite Colour project, which is being supported by design consultancy Made Thought and the Hull 2017 UK City of Culture initiative.

The children watched in amazement (and a lot of excitement) as 10,000 paper helicopters flew across the street and on to our heads. The world’s favourite colour was revealed…green! Finally the children were able to run down the street in and out of the waterfalls of paper, throwing and spinning the paper helicopters into the air. What an amazing experience!

The children were fantastically well behaved and loved every minute of it.  We were very privileged to be the only children in the world to be invited to such a brilliant event.

The eyes of the world’s media were on us throughout the whole event so look out for news stories and pictures on the local and national news. You can also spot us on the Hull Daily Mail and The Hull City of Culture Facebook pages.

The children made us really proud with their behaviour and attitude. We had lots of lovely comments about their enthusiasm and enjoyment of the event. The organisers are also kindly donating some paper to the school in the world’s favourite colour so look out for some creations in the next few weeks. Thank you to GF Smith and Hull City of Culture for allowing us to be part of this wonderful event.

For those of you who would like to have a look yourselves, the event starts today and is on for the next 10 days, in and around Humber Street, Hull. We would definitely recommend it and i’m sure the children would too!
