At Victoria Dock Primary School, we are committed to supporting the positive mental health and wellbeing of our whole school community (children, staff, parents and carers).
We have a supportive and caring ethos and our approach is respectful and kind, where each individual and contribution is valued.
We endeavour to ensure that children are able to manage times of change and stress and aim to ensure that they are supported to reach their potential or to access help when they need it.
We also have a role to ensure that children learn about what they can do to maintain positive mental health, what affects their mental health, how they can help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues, and where they can go if they need help and support.
At our school we know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable and at times, anyone may need additional emotional support. We take the view that positive mental health is everybody’s business and that we all have a role to play.
Wellbeing award for Schools
In 2022 the school were proud to be awarded the Wellbeing award for schools. The award recognises that the schools works to promote positive social and emotional wellbeing, mental health and wellness for pupils and staff in our school. We are currently working toward reaccreditation and will updates parents and carers soon.

Resilience framework
At Victoria Dock primary we believe that developing resilience in childhood is crucial for healthy emotional, social, and cognitive development. It refers to a child’s ability to bounce back from stress, adversity, trauma, or challenges.
The school have adopted The Resilience Framework to support children to develop resilience as they move through school.
Key elements to developing resilience include:
- Supportive relationships with caring adults (parents, teachers, mentors).
-
Encouraging problem-solving skills and decision-making.
-
Teaching emotional regulation and coping strategies.
-
Providing structure and routine to create a sense of safety.
-
Promoting a growth mindset — helping them see challenges as opportunities.
Each half term assemblies and activities are delivered to the children to support this key area of development by our Mental Health Team.
